Been working on this 271 today got it to spin a full turn on the flywheel today at last. Any how the pins in the built in ORC are stuck pushed all the way in. Springs in it are also probably bad/gone. Any how any body have an ideas on how to get the pins to pop out so I can replace the springs?? Also any body have any ideas on how long and the diameter of the springs?? Want to find them in town instead of driveing 80 mile to the dealer just for 2 springs.
Thanks

Look carefully and you should find a small hole (facing forward) in the casting where each pin is located. Use a small punch and tap them back with the help of a little penetrating oil.

The yoke casting can be removed by removing the center bolt and gently prying the yoke off the ORC ball bearing. If you plan to replace the springs, you will need to remove the yoke anyway.

It is a good idea to lube the ORC pins (2) for the pickup drive as well. They are located next to the slip clutch for the pickup.

Good luck,

Scott

Would be nice if it had those holes but it doesn't have them. I know on the model 68 they are there but not on this 271. I did get one out and working as it should but the other one is stuck bad. I may end up switching out U-joint yokes from the 68 I have for part and putting it on this 271.

Heck, you could always drill a small hole in the yoke and drive the offending pin out. Our 270 has the holes in the yoke. We oil the pins & springs by shooting a little oil in the holes.

It should be a good baler if you can get it going. Our 270 has been good to us and now serves as a backup for our NH 315.

Good luck,
Scott

I did just that today. I drilled a small hole in it and then drove the pin out. Spring was bad so I picked up a couple at a hardware store and its now back on the machine and both pins are working as they should. Tomorrow I get to play with the knotters to see if I can get them working as they should

Those ORC's seldom if ever drive equally on both dogs. I'd put it back together with one functional and move on to the rest of the machine. Worry about the other pin when you know what the rest of the baler is.

Had thought about doing that but don't like to have to go back and fix things. So what I did do was drill that hole like it in on the 68 and drove the pin out. I now have new springs in it and the pin on both sides is working just fine.

Aren't you the lucky one... I took the yoke off my S67 parts baler and had one of those pins frozen in place. It had the holes in either side just like my 68's but I could pry it forward. I soaked it for a week with penetrating oil, still no luck. I then did just as you, drilled a hole in the back side and tried tapping it out. Nope. Tried drilling through it (did) then tried to pound it out. Nope. Tried heat... that didn't work either, so I tried to use a bigger drill bit from the front and ream it out. Broke the bit. Now I was stuck so I took the "smoke wrench" to the darned thing and burned it out, but now I had the worlds hardest slag in a hole that wasn't as round as it should've been.

I junked it and bent over and took it up the rear at my NH dealer for a replacement one.. $242.

I had to have one. It was that or part out my recently aquired, and otherwise good Oliver 520 baler. I couldn't get any of the PTO/ORC parts that were missing from Agco and the NH stuff bolted right up mith a minor mod.
