Vermeer roller

Any thoughts out there on fixing a hammered shaft on a roller. Hate to buy a new roller. Talked to the local Vermeer dealer and he is sharp. Says he has build up several with weld but then most of them break. I mickey moused it with brass shim stock but not a good fix, now the bearing wiggles on the plate when running. They are taper lock bearing. Wonder if use a bearing with set screws would work.

I had one repaired once by cutting the old end out of the roller and a completely new stub end welded on. I second the fact that welding and machining does not last.

Don't buy a new roller. My dealer chuckled when I called, said we can order them for $400, I don't stock any because the neighboring metal fabricator can make them from scratch for $200. Here's their nuumber.....

If you need to replace, go to a metal shop with the old one.

I have replaced 2 now. Both look like they were welded up. I suspect that doesn't last long....
