Snapped the spindle on the rear axle of my hay wagon running gear, it's welded in, can this be replaced or should I scrap it? If replaceable whats the best way to get the old one out and how does one make sure the new one is aligned correctly? Thanks, Gene

Just have one made like Don suggested. The ones I've done were plumed with a framing square.... It's not the space shuttle. It'll live again.

I've done several of those repairs at the last machine shop I worked at. I would torch out the old one very carefully so I didn't burn out anything except the spindle itself, then I'd make up a new one on the lathe and weld it in. As long as I did a good job with the torch, I could clean it up with the grinder and didn't have to do much to line it back up.

Where are you at? I would even be willing to do it on the side if you're close. Spindles can be bought at implement dealers or from Shoup, among other places, but if you still want to be able to use the original hub your best bet would probably be to bring it to a machine shop before you start cutting, so they can get all the measurements they need to Make a new one.

BTW- I live in Kaukauna, the machine shop I worked at that did this type of work is Madden Machine, located in Freedom. (Kaukauna address)

Thanks for the offer. I live near Frederic. I've got a neighbor with a lathe that could make one for me or I think Farm&Fleet sells them. I've been having all kinds of bad luck, flat tires, broke axle and now my baler broke the shaft that drives the knotters, picking that up tomorrow at JD Went out this morning and round baled everything I had down. Waiting for the rain they predicted.
