Here in NH the price for Stock round bale is $45.00 local. If trucked in from NY $75.00. These are 4x4 rounds not wrapped or netted. Lets not even talk about Canada Hay prices ($8.00+ for small squares)

I think there's a big BIG difference here between regions, because of the region and climactic conditions. I'd assume that with the drought down south, you're chasing ACRES to get bales, wheras we get 10-15, and sometimes more bales per acre. If you get 5 bales per acre, and it costs 75 bucks to cover that acre with the gear, you've got to charge 25 a bale..... Needless to say, if I tried that where I make 15 bales per acre, I'd be shot.
I'm of the attitude now that 4 cylinder tractors mowing and baling will want 70 an hour. 3 cylinders with the tedder and rake want 50 an hour. If somebody wants to complain about it and wants a fixed price, it'll cost them more, because I'm not apt to gamble on what their poor crop will pay me.... Likely 10-12 a bale. That's for a 4x4 bale with string.... and still cheap enough.

If you yankees are getting all those bales per acre, might I inquire as to the price per bale on the market.

Down here in the Lone Star, decent quality hay is selling for somewhere around $45/roll. Are you getting more/less?

Prices? Today? What we've sold, we got 20.00 per bale for a 4x4 bale. 2.75 delivered for small squares. Some guys are getting up to 30 for a 4x5 bale. The bigger bales don't fetch any more because there's little demand for them. Too wide to transport. I've still got close to 300 bales from last year. There's some guys giving it away to empty the barn.... I'll just sit on it, thankyou. I may need it next year, or I'll sell the new crop this year and feed the old stuff. Not too worried about it. We had about 1/3 more crop than normal last year and the country is polluted with hay....

Here in North Central Texas, a 5x6 not so tightly wound round bale of about 1000 lbs will cost you 20 dollars. If you can get it done.

I paid $8 per bale for 5x6 two years ago on 9 acres. Another farmer paid $7 plus fuel. Depends on size of field and travel distance. I have also gotten a price of $6-7 for 4x5s. Cost is prob. more now with fuel cost.

Am I reading this correctly? Here in East Texas, I pay $17/roll for mowing/raking/baling. And, that is when I can get him to show up.

Two years ago my dad paid $15 per bale in NE Texas, IF the fellow showed up.

I have taken over the "horse quality" hay field and my neighbor cuts it for me.

He gets to cut off of 4 other "mixed grass" fields for his cattle.

A win - win situation for both of us.
