Hi all , I opened up the slip clutch on my 14t today so now I know what a good slip clutch should NOT look like ! Now I'm in need of the ratchet dog , spring and driven hub with good facings or a complete unit in good working order and with good output splines . I know that the boneyard that I usually go to doesn't have one . I have two extra balers but they are working balers so I don't want to rob parts from them . Anyone have an extra one you'd like to get rid of ? Thanks !

I know EXACTLY what your saying about heat stroke..... I had one when I was a kid putting up hay for my dad and grandpa..... .it almost killed me that day and I was lucky to come out of it the doc said..... .and now i can't tolerate heat at all.....I get heat exaustion real easy and it is hard for people to understand why a 36YO man can't work as hard as they do in the heat..... so please watch yourself in the heat..... ...my 1000 bale days are over and 200 is alot for me now in a hot barn and field..... .

how many balers you got now anyway. you going to be machinery poor pretty soon. cheaper to buy the hay!!. As far as the seed you were taliking about just get it when you need it. I can have any seed you want next day or same so don't even think about storing it there is no POINT to it!!!! No 14T right now just old New Holland unit

SSSHHHHH !!! Don't let my wife hear you say that ! It's OK Rick , I'm getting these things pretty cheap . With the disc , balers , moco , elevators rack and rake I have less than 2500 invested and it all works good enough for me to get 300 or so bales in per cutting . With the price of hay it ISN"T cheaper to buy 1200 bales a year for 5 horses . My math works out to - at only $3.00 a bale - to $3600 a year . That's the reason for three balers though - I didn't pay much for them so they may self destruct at any moment so I need the backups ! I only paid 225 for this one . And it's the best one yet except for this overrunning/slipclutch thing . You know I don't do to much acreage wise and first cutting wasn't to good , only 180 or so bales . It missed tying one side on the second bale due to grease I'm pretty sure . Take care ...Randy

thats what I mean you can buy it for the $3.00 or under out of the field the majority of the time. and only load it an take it home. did you ever getthe bale basket wagon you were talking about once. I ran three of those units years back and loved them. will be cutting again next week.

Het Rick , You might be missing my point . Or I'm missing yours . At a cost per year of $3600 for bought hay ( if the cost doesn't go up any more ) versus my equipment cost as of now at around $2500 for everything I use , not just hay equipment ( not including tractors ) excluding repairs and fuel and such I think I've saved a bunch of money already and have done the same amount of physical labor to get it in the barn . My equipment costs are basically one time costs versus every year for hay . But since I don't keep detailed records of my expenses such as fuel used per acre and oil changes and lube costs I can't say for sure . But as long as it gives me something to do with this acreage and I enjoy it were's the harm ? I've talked to some of the neighbors about buying it out of their fields but they already have long term buyers so they can't do it for me . I don't have enough property to make enough hay to sell so it's " not for profit " hay making , just a way to save a few bucks down the road . Everyone started somewhere , I'm just starting real late in life and didn't have anyone ( like relatives ) to help me get going . I don't worry to much about making money , that's why I have a job . Besides , I don't have any children and no one to will it to so I don't care if I make a bunch of money . As far as I'm concerned life is about a LOT more than making money . Just my 2 cents . About that bale basket , I couldn't talk the guy into actually selling it . I'm still trying to though . I found a different one for sale in the paper last week but he wanted way to much for it . It would spead things up but it's not that important . If I find one that's affordable and usable sometime I'll get it but for now I'll just build a lean-to on the barn and get another rack or two to park under it in case it wants to rain to soon . hey that s fine but most of them find out that is cheaper for them to buy it, after they tried doing it themselves for couple years. Doing hay is also usually not just a weekend deal to get it quality. Good luck and have fun. Watch the heat stroke cause once you had it,you will not be the same in the heat as far as taking it. i know where their is some bale baskets that have been setting for quite some time probably could be bought cheap,near Ottumwa Ia. I loved them till went to grapple setup

Your good Rick if you actually understood a word I said in that last post ! I re-read it and even I couldn't get what I was trying to say :). Anyway , I can take off work when I need to to do the hay . My horses vet say's at the very least my hay looks better than anybody elses he's seen . That's not to say it would test good but the horses don't lose any weight over winter ( They don't get supplements or grain - just hay ) and they eat it all . I guess that's as good a test as any . The difference is I grew up doing hay on my grandparents farm during the summer in Georgia . So I didn't go into making hay thinking it would be easy . But to say the least it's cheaper even at this early stage to make it myself than to buy it . Cheap equipment makes that possible even if it needs frequent repair or I need multiple pieces to make sure I get the hay in . As I upgrade equipment things will get easier . ...Randy

Which slip clutch?? If I remember right the one I have had 3 or 4 of them on it. On this one just about every place there was a chain drive there was a slip clutch.
