I've been looking for a square baler and I found a IH 47 baler. Is there anything to look for on these balers as far as problems? Also are parts still readily available? Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks

I used a #47 IH baler for years , just upgraded 2-3 years ago to a JD 336.(baled about 350 today with it). The 47 is a decent baler, one thing I found is it is important to keep the knives on the knotters that cut the twine sharp or you will pull knots apart, esp if using a thrower. At one time I ran all IH hay equipment of the same vintage as the #47 . I felt that IH made decent equipment designed for a farmer to be able to work on himself in that time period. As far as parts I had alot of parts off a junk baler but when I did need parts they were available from IH.
