i live in n al and the 3 foot tal corn here is trying to put on ears and is all twisted up and firing up. i wondered why nobody was cutting it for har. i have a feeling that even if they did there want be any cows around here close this fall to feed them to because all the guys i know are going to have to start feeding their first cutting of hay just to maintain their herds and by this fall the want have any hay to carry them through the winter. i've heard of other guys on some more forums saying that if corn brought 4.00 dollars this fall they were going to sell off all the brod sows and quit. by this winter i have a feeling that you'll be lucky to have enough money without putting a mortgage on the house to buy any type of pork or beef. didn't mean to steal you post, but was curious about how things are where others live. sounds ike you've got it rough already. i would take plenty of pictures and talk with my local agri guys to see if your area might be declared a disaster area and qualify for federal loans. if you cut your corn for hay you might not qualify. i don't know how that works.

on drought stressed crops u should be testing for too high of nitrate levels which are concentrated the lower you go on a stalk, they can kill beef, usually they leave stalks extra long when doing that -

My brother baled some stunted corn a few years ago with a large round baler. Worked pretty good but couldn't lift the bales with a 4020 JD. they were too heavy. Other than that they were fed to beef cattle.
