Gleaner K or K2 Combines

I know of a Gleaner Model "K" combine for sale fairly nearby. with a 3-row corn head. Can someone comment on the strong/weak points of this machine? I've run John Deere, IH, and Case self-propelleds of that era, but not a Gleaner. Also, what is the difference between a K and a "K2? Thanks in advance.

thinking about a K myself . Am also planning to build a shed so need to be able to make it big enough to house one.Does anyone know how long and tall a gleanor K is? thanks in advance.

Differences between a K and K2: K2 had transverse flow cleaning fan, pressurized cab with more soundproofing, nicer seat and steering wheel setup, and a better (IMO) control layout. 1978-81 K2 had more separating area (longer walkers, sieve and chaffer) than K or 1977 K2. K2 had diesel engine and hydraulic extend unloader options available that were never offered on K, and the monitoring system of K2 (Tattletale I and II) was more advanced. K2 also had a bigger bin and a wider (same as F2) clean grain elevator to fill the bin. Header lift cylinders and hydraulic reservoir were also bigger than K. Thousands of Ks were sold so finding one in a salvage yard should be fairly easy. K2s were near the end of the demand for that size machine so are not as numerous but share many common parts with F2s . . . . AGCO is gradually discontinuing parts for the little guys, but I don"t think there is anything on one that couldn"t be fabricated by a competent machine shop. Cylinder and concave bars are available aftermarket. Weak spots: with age the transmission brake shaft seal leaks gear oil onto the brake shoes. If machine had a straw chopper with bent shaft or bad bearings on it at any time in its life the separator hood may have cracked between the fuel tank and engine. Shifter assembly can get stuck in gear if it has a lot of wear in the holes where linkages attach. I took mine out and put in bushings to tighting everything up, cured the shifting problem.

What is a very nice kept and great running Gleaner K with a 3 row corn head and 13 ft soybean header worth? I am talking in excellent shapre for the age of the combine.

They are good Machines. Those old Gleaners are a piece of cake to work on.
