Well just pulled the old NH55 out of the weeds to get it back up and working. Its missing part of the drive shaft, it has the outer part but not the inner part or u-joint yoke for that end. I need to find out how long it should be and what size it is so I can find the parts for it and make a new shaft. Thanks

That would be nice. This rake may end up going to a boys home so I need to try to keep the fix as cheap as I can.

Hey Old.This off the subject of your 55 rake, but do you have a manual for a 850 NH roller handy? If so,look on page 24 where it talks about checking the dope in the gear box. Then on page 26 it shows the figure A part 1(check bolt).Question is do you take out that lower right bolt and then put 90 weight in the fill plug til it comes out that bolt hole?

Thanks

Bigun

No Sir I did not,but if you would like to know I will post it Tues if you like. The N.H. part number is 677847 if you have a dealer near by.The u-joint assy is purchased seperate.

Thanks anyway, I'll just call a local dealer on Monday. The part I am missing is piece in the center. I have the large end, and the 1 in. solid square end, but am missing the part to connect the two together.

Well its not going any where and has been sitting in my fence row for a year now so ya I can hold on. I can't see paying for a new shaft when I know they can be made in any half way good shop.

Old, this is the lastest shaft and will probably look different from the orginal 55 shaft.I measure from the center cup of the standard 12R ag u-joint cup to the end of the first stage,10 1/2".From the end of the first stage to the end of the second stage is 6 3/4". From the end of the second stage to the end of the third stage is 8 1/2". Overall 26".The second stage tubing is 1 1/4" O.D. but the third stage is solid 1" shaft. It's made to stay together unless abused.

The lower u-joint assy, standard 12R cross with a 1" square yoke and a 1 1/4" round bore. Always tie the disengage leaver when towing the rake, been known to jump into gear and wipe out this drive.

That looks a lot different then what this one has on it. All it is on this one is a single square tube that the piece I'm missing fits into. I also have half of the U-joint but at least you have given me a clue on it

I think you will find, even although yours is a piece of tubing that it will have to have 3 sections and telescope to allow the basket to raise and lower. Still could be made with a shop and a little imagination

Yes it will need to telescope but as far as 3 parts I'm not sure. Looks like 2 will work just fine but I guess I'll find out when I get to making one for it
