Grinding Stone for sharping sickle

Dose anyone know if or where you can get a grinding stone for sharping a sickle. The kind I'm thinking of were V shaped high in the middle to fit between the sickle sections. Thank you.

They used to sell them at the Central Tractor stores(now out of bus. I think) Probably have them at the TSC stores(kinda a central tractor clone!) I agree with the guys that say a 4" grinder works good and is probably a tad safer.

I grew up using a bench-mounted sickle bar grinder. Worked great for the old 5-6 foot bars, more difficult for the 7s. Balancing the bar is an art when one gets close to either end, but certainly doable. But you need a lot of bench length. I vote for the 4" or smaller disc grinder.

They use disc sanders around here for sharpening those sickle bars. Some are 9-feet long and you could shave with one of those sections they're so sharp. Hal

I have one of those stones hanging on the wall in one of my buildings and it has been there for 20 plus years now. Pay the shipping on it and you can have it. Don't know how good or bad it really is but its hanging there

I bought a sickle grinder powered by an electric motor on a 4-legged stand at a sale for $3.00. Really didn't want it, but bought it anyway to get him moving on to what I really wanted to buy. The electrial cord is frayed and needs replacement, otherwise it looked OK, but realize I didn't spend much time looking at it. If you are ever in/near Central Illinois, and have a spare $3.00, it can be yours. It is a pickup deal only since it is not worthwhile to either of us to try and ship it.

I use a 4 1/2 inch fiber grinding disk on a air powered die grinder. Works far faster and better than a v grinding wheel.

I don't know where you can get one but they were not very successful. If they were only used to sharpen sickles they did ok, but if someone slipped and sharpened something else on them it would mess up the angles and not sharpen the sickle evenly. A 4 inch side grinder works better and quicker.
