Am running an old 165 pz (2 drums - 5" cut), assuming your 4 is set up similiar.....been a long time since I"ve had to go into it, & my memory isn"t "photogenic" either..! but will try to give a quick, but (will be lengthy) written diagragm (probably not exact though). The bottom saucer has 3 allen head bolts holding it to the bottom of the "hub" drum. Depending on wear, there may not be a whole lot to get hold of to unscrew. The bearings that the saucer rides on, are kept on the bottom of the drum shaft with a split ring in a groove on the drum shaft, that sets into a type of housing (that stays in the center of the saucer). The shaft is pressed into the hub that the blade carriers & the outer/actual drum are bolted to. The drum shaft (with a cone shaped outer covering that covers the most part of the shaft) goes up through the bottom of the "tray", oil seals & bearings, etc.. Pinion (may not be the correct label??) gears that are on a 45 degree, shims, spacers, nuts & keepers, comprise the connection between the drum shaft & the horizontal shaft that drives everything. A keyway on the drumshaft, holds the drumshaft gear to turn the drum,(a series of shims, of different thicknesses, under the gear, but (I think?)on top of the bearing, to align it with the gear on the drive shaft to the proper setting (backlash? - again, I know there is a proper term for what it is called,but not sure I am right??!) The gears on the horizontal drive shaft also have keyways, shims & spacers to get everthing lined up with the proper clearances, but are also held in place with internal rings. To remove the horizantal drive shaft to remove the drums, takes a series of back & forth movements to get all the gears unhooked (keeper rings removed) so that the horizontal shaft will slide & let you get to the keeper & nut that actually holds the drum/drum shaft in its location. Sounds really complicated, but once you figure out the sequence, is actually quite simple, just lots of steps that have to be in the proper order. ---& now a tidbit from my past --- The "first" pz that I ran -- was doing the same as you describe.....one drum would not stay turning..... .(was an old "scrapped" cutter, picked up for the "hauling off" -- had to buy the drive shaft from him though as he was using it on another piece of equipment) The keeper (that is supposed to keep the nut that holds the drum /shaft in place in relation to the drive gears) was stripped, let the nut back off, which ruined the threads.....got everything back in place (best I could), used big washers to shim with & welded a large washer to the top of the shaft to hold everthing. Ran that cutter for about 4 years til one of the cast iron "hubs") that holds the blade carriers & the actual drum, decided to disintegrate. Good luck with it, Garry
