I am having trouble with breaking sickles, they break right next to the head. Any thoughts as what might be causing the problem?

Steve we had the same problem we put in a new knife and the pin was loose in the socket bearing also the pin was woren some. We are going to replace the pin and the arw if it is available as it is not right either. I would guess that is the same issue on yours.

The first few guards (3) are special or different. They do not have the rear wear bar. The sickle as it moves left to right also has to move fore and aft because of the arc of the drive arm. The wrong guards will not let it move fore and aft. Look in the OM.

Also, did you replace the drive pin or is it the tie rod end type. If the pin or rod end are worn and let it hammer, that can break sickles also.
