Swather problem

I have a Case 955 self propelled windrower (swather, haybine, whatever you would like to call it) and it works pretty good.... for awhile. After it runs for around one hour, it acts like it is running out of gas. Plenty of gas in the tank. No dirt in sediment bowl, and a clean fuel filter. One you let it sit about 15-20 minutes, it good for around 5-10 minutes again. Let it sit overnight, and it will run an hour or so again. It has the case engine. I wondering if its maybe vapor lock, or something like that. Any ideas?

sounds like vaperlock to me. is there any way you can get some foam insulation between engine and gas tank so gas don't heet up in tank? Also wrap the gas line with insulation and tape.

Check the coil and the ignition stwitch. The coil is the most probable cause in my opinion because you said it ran for about an hour. Look for the charging system to possibly be running to high to cause the coil to overheat while you are at it.

After running a while heat makes things expand and can break down insulation or contacts or wiring in a coil or condenser or also make a wire expand pulling apart but making contact when cooler. Also check the vent hole in fuel cap if it's suppose to be vented or has the correct fuel cap or other vent on tank if it has such.

Coil/condenser. Could be a vapor lock too. But I'd look to the electrical bits.

Hi ya Paul,

Boy, I dunno. Noticed Bob said something 'bout a condenser too.

Just don't see how that could be.

The condenser can only fail one direction; shorted to ground. If that were the case, it wouldn't run at all, would it?

Maybe a loose mounting screw might 'cause such a condition?

A condensor (us electronic engineers use the more correct name of capacitor) can fail open circuit, or change value also. SO it could be the problem here too.

Just went thru the same kind of a problem on a tractor. Try a different coil.
