Hey guys, have a NH 276 square baler; last year bales 11,000 bales with no problems, yesterday dropped 556 no problem, today was a diaster. The twine is coming up and the twine disc is catching it, but releases it as soon as the next bale hits it. It is where it suppossed to be however it will not keep hold of it. Tightened and loosened the tension spring/nut and looked at it until I am cross eyed. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

Twine disc tension is not set with the nut; that sets the billhook tension. Twine disc tension is set by a leaf spring adjusted by a 3/8" diameter cap screw threaded horizontally into the knotter frame. If the fault happened all at once, I'd be looking for a broken leaf spring or twine holder or a sheared drive pin in the twine disc pinion.

Yes I have a manual but it seems to be very vague. I am using the same brand twine and the disc appear in time. 1/8" past the 'point A' on the diagram. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Like Gwiz said there is a tension spring that sticks straight down against the dic. It is a flat sprig. Tighten it about a quarter turn and see if it helps. Are you using the same size string you were before?

Just glanced at my manual (I assume you have one) and noted that the discs are not actualy the 'holders'. There are two 'holders' on the front side of the knotter frame. Are you sure they are intact and not broken?

Is it one side or both? Are the twine discs timed properly?
