I was wondering if anyone has let hay on the ground overnight that is already baled. I baled 540 bales today and picked up probably about 350 or so. SO I have a decent amount on the ground and I just can't go anymore. I am beat. WIll it hurt those bales out there to let them sit until tomorrow evening? No rain in the forecase so only Dew would be the moisture there... any thoughts? I hope they will be OK. Just wondering what others have experienced.

We leave bales out when we run out of time too. Generally, we try to put them in piles, 2 wide maybe 3 or 4 high. It give them a little prtection and makes pickin them up a little quiker!

I did almost 700 today...all on the ground....I know what its like...
Between my spare rake breaking....fixing a baler sprocket....then halfway thru broke a needle....I didnt get any picked up...
My help is limited so I have to do it this way....
Wife will run the pickup with wagon but wont run the tractor let alone trailing a baler and wagon..
I'll pick em up after the dew burns off...

Leaving bales in the field is better than any rain dance! Doesn't matter if the 'weather man' says so or not.
Just kidding. Won't hurt anything. They do draw moisture, but it's not significant to the overall bale.

THanks guys! I went around and stacked a few on top of others thinking if there is a problem only 1 bale will draw damp etc. but it sounds like I'll be OK.

Thanks again! Mark

Wont hurt the hay but roll the bales over with a pitch fork before you pick them up tomorrow. Last year I didn't do that and a coperhead introduced his self to me.Was sick for a while. Sam

As long as the dew is completely off before you pick them up it won"t hurt a thing to leave them over night. In fact when I was 16 picking up hay we would often work all night picking up hay and be heading for the house as the sun came up, so I guess there would have been dew on some of them bales, never thought about that before.
