JD 336 Baler Jumps Time

I have a 336 baler that bales fine until the needles lift too soon causing the plunger dog to shear a pin.I have checked the timing repeatedly and it always looks OK.Can replace the pin and bale 15-20 more and it shears another pin.Something is changing the needle-plunger timing every 15-20 bales.Can'tfigure it out.Any help appreciated! Thanks.

Thank you all! Ihave replaced front chain and I tightened needle brake but I did notice the pads were worn and had been turned around.I will get new pads now.I thought maybe it was somthing in the knotter clutch pawl since it always seems to do it when it is tying.Thanks again for all your help!

My NH 68 had a similar problem. The rod to the plunger dog was slopy and the pin connecting the rod worn. This caused the plunger stop (dog) to run a little to much into the chamber causing about every tenth bale to shear a pin. The baler was also quite noisy, as the plunger would just nick the stop as it tied a knot. Once I corrected the adjustment to the plunger stop, I no more trouble. Hope this helps.

If you dont have to manually change the gear timing to correct it it sounds like the brake on the knotters is worn. This will cause the needle frame to bounce when it goes to home.

Needle brake needs tightning or new pads. As usual kyhayman said it correctly. Also as Bob suggested one should check condition and tightness of front chain which can effect timing. Tx Jim

Worn roller chains can "ride the tips of the sprockets", 'till they "jump time".

Have you replaced the chains lately?
