I have a New Holland 268 baler that makes bales that are ragged on the ends. The side of the bales are fine but the ends are ragged and sometimes 2 bales will actually come out attached to each other. Is there a knife that needs sharpening somewhere? I"ve checked my manual but can"t find anything regarding this issue. What am I missing? Thanks.

You need to check both the stationary knife and the plunger knife and make sure they are sharp. Then adjust the clearance at 1/32" between the knives. To do this you have to adjust the roller bearing on the plunger on the left side of the baler. The manual should have detailed instructions on how to adust the plunger bearings to maintain proper knife clearance. Sounds like a charge of uncut hay going in to start and end the bales.

Knife on plunger needs sharpening or the clearance adjusted or both. There is a corresponding knife on the bale case next to the plunger. The manual should cover adjustment, if not suggest you go by a NH dealer and ask for directions on adjustments.
