The 6' bushhog we've had on my Farmall Super M for the last 30 years has about had it. I was okay with it until major sections of the deck rusted out. Sure I could weld in sheets but the gearbox has leaked badly for a long time and who knows how long its good for?

So Question 1: How big a bushhog can I put on a Super M? I'm thinking 7' would be nice, the 6' pulls easy in 2nd gear in most conditions.

Question 2: How much should I expect to pay for such a thing, new or used?

Ludwig, look in the tractor photo's. I have a picture of my 1950 M pulling a 15 foot heavy duty Bushhog on hills. I have pulled this mower for almost 20 years with various tractors including the M. In real thick stuff it is a 1st gear thing, but just clipping pastures and general sprucing up it will pull it in 2nd and 3rd gear. I have mowed stuff you would not believe with the M. Including locust sprouts 2 and 3 inches in diameter. Search 1950 M and 15 foot mower.

I pulled a 10 ft. Woods offset with my M, which has the increased bore pistons, same as stock Super M. Used 2nd and 3rd gear, was mowing pasture land, about 60 acres that had grass & weeds, but I wasn't shaving the ground, probably mowing about four inches off the ground. This was pasture land that had cattle grazing on it, so it's not like a solid stand of forage. Perhaps if what you are mowing, has dense cover you might want to go with a 7 or 8 ft.

You could mow with yours in 3rd?

That settles it, I definately want a new mower. When I'm mowing in 3rd the blades hit the deck. Guess the clearances are a bit loose. They ought to be, we've had the mower for 40 years or so. Bought it with an H I guess, so it was used when my uncles got it.
I'm not mowing super short but the tractor is a little wider than the 6' mower. I do mow some heavy stuff sometimes, 3"-4" popple (quaking aspen) trees and other brush. I'll look for a 7 or 8 foot.

Any idea how much to pay?
