I'm kinda curious where you guys get replacement rims if you need them for your wagons, and other equipment-

Last year we trashed a 4 bolt rim on our springtooth so I went to our loacl source, who is a private scrapper with a nice tire pile in back. I found 1 nice 4 bolt 15" rim with a good tire on it, got it for $10.

A little while later I needed a 5 bolt rim for a running gear I fixed up, as the one rim was not original and the tire was burnt anyway. I went back out there and got 4 more tires & rims, 1 had a shot tire on it and another one blew the tread off in the sun once I got home, but again I got them for $10 each, 3 had hubs/spindles still attatched too.

I was bringing in some scrap iron later on and the scrap yard also has a large selection of rims that guys will remove the tire then scrap the rims. I got 2 more 4 bolt 15" rims, 2 5 bolt 15" rims, and another odd ball 6 on 6.5" 16" rim that matches one of our hay wagons. I got them all for scrpa price because after I unloaded, I threw them in my truck and went back over the scale.

I was just there again on Wed. and pulled out a nice 6 bolt 15" rim. one hole is bent a little bit, but it can be pounded out. I'll probably mount it on a hub and spin it first just to check, but it should be fine under a hay wagon.

We don't nessesarily need all of those rims, but I always look and If I find one that is what we use and matches, I'll grab it. It's also nice to get rid of the 14" rims on the farm. We've got absolutley no use for them....

We had 3 gravity boxes on the farm. 2 were on Deere running gears and one was on an oddball running gear that had a 5 on 5 1/2' pattern. Just so happened that this perticular wagon had a flat during picking season, so I pulled the wheel off and took it down to Don's BP to get it fixed. Being also a car enthusist I spotted a set of mags stacked outside. Closer inspection revealed them to be Keystone Klassic mags in so..so condition with decent tires. I measured them and they were 5 on 5 1/2 pattern. Don said he took them off a guy's Ford truck and put the stock wheels and new tires back on. I bought the whole set including the lug nuts for 25 bucks. Dad was mildly amused with the rusty gravity box with a set of mags on it but we never had another tire problem with this gravity box and had 4 spares for it. The ironic thing is this gravity box brought $75 more than the other two gravity boxes that looked nicer and were on the much better Deere gears in the auction.

Ya know- that makes me kinda think because we've got a old set of wide rims off my brother's 84 S-10 he had, they were chrome but they were rusting through pretty bad so he put a set of steel rims on it- they're still stacked in the shed and we have 1 wagon I know they'd fit, along with our hay rake and an old trailer... ;-)

We've got 4 good hay wagons right now, and they all have different bolt patterns. None of them have a standard 6 on 6 either...

Still want to build a couple more, got one with a 6 on 6 pattern and another with the 5 on 5 1/2 that needs to have the old rack torn off. We've got an old Deere running gear too with 6 on 6, but it needs a buch of work so we'll probabvly just stick it under a feeder in the cow yard so we can move it around when we have to.
