The shaft driven type. In the cutterbar. And do you use lock-tite on the bolts when you replace?? Thanks, LB

Use the New Idea EP-0 grease (or Bush Hog brand EP-0). This is an extreme pressure grease that melts at very low temps and behaves almost like an oil. Yes, its expensive, but so is a gear set.

Most definitely use the locktite. Some bone head working for my dad had one apart last week on our oldest 5408 (twisted the shaft, had to take it apart and cut the blasted thing out; and I TOLD him not to mow there). He didnt put the locktite on either. It came apart yesterday where he didnt lock those bolts in. Pretty spectacular when they fly off, and really chews up the gears.

Cutting corners in their is penny wise and pound foolish.
