One knotter on this baler started acting up. It is tying the knot, but not pulling it tight enough. Does the spring loaded adjustment screw on the side of the knotter fix this? Thanks, Nick

The knotters do not tighten knots. As the bale passes on through the chamber and lengthens as it comes out the knots tighten. Sounds to me like you may not have enough 'tail' on the knots. That can be lengthed by advancing the timeing on your twine discs. May also need to tighten the tension on the discs. That is done with the spring steel 'finger' which rests against the side of the twine discs. Manual says to tighten this as your bale tension increases.

Gwiz, here is what the trouble shooting guide in the manual say's for loosely tie knots.1. Too little tension on bill hook, remedy Increase tension on bill hook 2. Worn bill hook. remedy Replace bill hook. 3. Excessive twine holder tension. Remedy. Reduce twine holder tension. Now I know this doesn't mean a whole lot as there are lots of things that can effect quality of knots. It is somewhere to start. If the bill hook lets the twine slip as the stripper is crossing the hook, the result will be a loose knot, or no knot at all.

That spring loaded bolt and nut does adjust tension of the bill hook. You might try tightening it 1/4 turn at a time and see if it helps. Be careful not to over tighten as it will break the cast iron bracket that holds pressure on the hook if it is to tight.
