I have a IH 25V sickle mower that I am restoring and I need to know what is involved in taking the pitman pully off. It looks like I have to remove the shaft key and screw it off but that seems like a pretty difficult task. I just want to make sure what has to be done. Don't want to break anything. I would like to replace any seals behind that pully and also the PTO shaft gear box. I need to know what the part numbers are for the seals if anyone has this information.

I is like all other IH mower's and that pulley needs to be pressed off the shaft. They are easily broken. The seals and bearings are availabe at IH or maybe auto parts store if you can find that part number from old seal and bearing.

I really appreciate the info. and the quick reply. I was able to get the pully off rather easily after I heated it with a propane torch for a while and then let it cool. I found that seal to be a m-42015 and NAPA says they have it as NOS11776.

Now along the same lines I need to know how the upper gear box is assembled. It appears the front universal joint that goes to the PTO is pressed on so it should not be too hard. I am most concerned about the pulley end of the shaft. I have removed the large nut, sprint and clutch plates. What next is the question.

Appreciate any info on this.

It has been a long time, but I think I took the last one out by removing that front u-joint yoke and the cast end plate then pulled the shaft out the back with pulley still attached. I am not real sure about it, but I believe that is how I done it. I have one now that needs bearings, I may put those in tomorrow and refresh my memory.

Got the U-Joint yoke off but can't take the shaft out. The pully end has a very large threaded adapter on it for the clutch assembly. I can't tell if the is threaded or just pressed on the shaft. I suspect it is threaded on but I don't want to break it to find out. This is my last hurdle to be able to replace the seals. So far they are all m-42015.

Thanks

I may have been mistaken. The pulley may have to come off to get that shaft out the other end, I just don't remember I did have all those manuals, but my house burned in 2000 and lost all of that. I think manuals are available here on YT for them or from Binder Books. Check tractor manuals to the left.

Sorry to hear about the fire. I just figured I would share these final findings. The clutch and pulley where screwed on. The shaft through the gear box is reverse threaded on both ends. It took a pipe rench and a 3 foot pipe to break it free but I got it done. Once the pulley is off I had to drive the shaft out the front where the plate is bolted on. All the seals are m-42015. Thanks for all your help.

It would appear that I wasn't much help. I am glad to hear you got it. I just came in from taking mine apart, and I had forgotten the process.Good luck.
