I have picked up a 165 vermeer drum mower that needs the bottom saucers and some sheet metal work. My question is are they worth fixing and are they better or worse than a disc mower? Thanks

The Vermeer 165 drum mower was made by PZ and most of the current HayMAXX-CCM 165 drum mower parts are interchangeable. We have the bottom saucers in stock, Part # 170-2-66. The saucers are held on with 3 allen head bolts.

I have heard the claim hay will cure a little faster if cut with a drum mower than a disc mower. Izzit so?

Both the disc mower and drum mowers cut hay in the same manner. There is no difference between them in drying time.

FYI this drum mower is made by Agrostroj Pelhrimov of Czechoslovakia there very good mowers and for the most part easy to maintain, they have only about 8 moving parts in them. I have one sitting in the yard that I'm replacing a shoe on as well as knives. heres a link to there website.

I have a Reese drum mower. I haven't had a chance to really try it out yet, but it seems to cut good so far. My drums are beat up and in bad shape. The drums cost $1053 each so I'm kind of in the same boat you are about replaceing them.

I have been considering getting a drum mower. What would cause the drums to get beat up? Does anyone know how long they last? If a field is clean, I thought the drums would stay in pretty good shape.
