I'll try to be as brief as possible, but I need some information please. I have Jellow Jacket disk mower ( I think they are made by Fort, but not sure). I need to change the oil in the cutter bar and the over drive unit. The manual says use ISO 150. The dealer says that GL-5 is the same thing as ISO 150. The manual says use ISO 150 in the cutter bar and the overdrive unit. There is a sticker on the overdrive unit that says use SAE 90 gear oil. The dealer says not to use 90 because it will tear the unit up ( bear in mind the manual says ISO 150 in both). The guy at Napa and IKT say to use 85W-140 which is for GL-5 applications. What is ISO 150?
My neighbor put 85W-140 in his cutter bar last year and has had no trouble. We have the same kind of mower. He has not changed the oil in the over drive yet and is confused as I am. This may be a dumb question but what oil should I use. I am leaning toward the guys at the Napa as they have never let me down to date. Any ideas or a comparison chart on oils would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Fud.

Hmmm. Well, I could be wrong.... but I run 85W140 in the cutterbar on my discbine. On the mounted disc mower I run 80W90. Never had any lubrication problems with either. I do know for a fact that the Deere discbine calls for 85W140 and it's darn near like grease.
The other mower is a 465 NH/Kuhn GMD77, and I'm reasonably certain they call for 80W90... but won't swear to it.... but that's what's been used in it for over 15 years, and that bar has never been opened. That does fold vertical for transport, so I've always justified using the lighter oil for that reason... but I'm fairly certain that that's what's called for.
