IH Super Chief Plows

Hi out there- I have a set of 3pt "Heavy Duty Super Chief" 2 bottom plows. Tractor has always seemed to work hard pulling them, JD 950 4x4, Does anyone have insight/knowledge into set-up or better still direction for owner/ops manual? Thanks

Scott: To start with IH never built a Super Chief plow. Super Chief is a plow bottom that will fit just about every plow IH ever built. Unless you know the model and width of cut kind of hard to pin problem or solution on the plow.

Secondly, every farm equipment manufacturer in the past quarter century have come out with a line up of oriental junk. It's been so popular companies started up just to prodce this type of tractor. They are built cheap to fill that market. Most John Deere 40s, Farmall Super As, Cockshutt 20s, etc. will out pull them and out pto them. You have one and basically they are not much good for anything

Can you drop one bottom to make it a two-bottom plow on the model you have? That will help alot.

JD 950 I don't believe have a draft control which allows the plow to rise when it hits a tough spot. that why the old 8ns and simalar tractors worked very well with 3 point plows

Manuals are available here at YT or from Binder Books. The draft and depth on the tractor has to be set right to keep plow from going to deep. Just at a guess the tractor isn't hardly big enough either. You need to know model number of plow to get right manual.
