Just bought this baler. New to round baling. Can anyone tell me what gear the baler should be operated in on level ground? Also I noticed that the pickup is not level in either the up or down position. The left side seems to be lower. Even though I tightened the spring on that side.
I have a manual on order from vemeer but don't have it yet. Was hopeing to use baler this weekend.
Any help would be appreaciated.
Thanks

The baler should be run around 3-4 MPH for beginners. Since the pickup only lifts on one side it will probably be a little uneven. Make sure that you weave to fill the chamber as fast as possiable.

Drive to fill the ends of the bale the middle will take care of itself. Watch your belts when they start sideways it is time to change sides always try to get them as straight as possible just before you tie.

What are you pulling it with?? I always tried to bale at about 6 MPH. when you pull into the windrow pull in at an angle get hay all the way across the chamber as quick as you can. I always started a bale at about 1/2 throdle when it starts rolling then speed up. I never used a C, I had a 605A then a 605F. If I remember a C is a closed throat they are harder to start bales with than open throat balers. The A was closed the F open. There are little tricks you will learn by your self. Don't expect to just go out and start baling like a pro at first.

Jimmy, I am using an AC D17 and yes the 605C is closed throat! Thanks for the info.
I have read that some folks start a bale by first going across the windrow in order to get the hay all the way across rollers. Have you ever tried that? I've been working on the baler to fix a few minor things. Will try to bale with it this week end. After the bale is started is there a problem with stopping and starting? The way my fields are situated there are times I'll have to stop and back up.

No you should not have a problem, just ease into the windrow until you get a little experence. I hate to tell you this but always take a sharp knife to the field with you. I had an electricions knife I could fold it up and put it in my pocket, and use a file to sharpen it. I learned on the old 605A to cut the hay all the way to the roller all the way across when it plugs then start the baler 99 out if 100 times it will suck it right in the chamber. I shouldn't tell you this it took me four years to learn it. I say I say never try to kick hay in the baler while it is running. life too short the way it is.
