I have a NH 271 Hayliner in good shape except for a dead Wisconsin engine which I'd like to replace with a PTO shaft and clutch assembly. Is this as straight forward a job as it seems?

Ouch! Maybe I'll advertise it for restoration or parts and, at the same time, scout around for a dead hulk to cannibalize that someone wants taken out of their yard.

Thanks for the advice.

We have a 271 that was changed over many years ago. Unfortunately I didn't do the change, so really can't say how easy it is. But from looking at it it shouldn't be a problem. We do have a parts manual and would be happy to take a look at it if that will help.

That would be great if you could; just so I know that I'm not entering an expensive black hole.

Thanks.

Hold onto your wallet then. I can't say what you'll be able to find used or at a salvage yard but I would be looking there first. I'm almost certain that you can get everything you would need new from the NH dealer, but it will cost you. I just bought the yoke that attaches the rear PTO shaft onto the clutch assy on the fly wheel for a S67 baler... it was $257.00 bare, no pins or springs, no bearing.

I didn't price a whole shaft and clutch assy for mine. I just needed this part so I could swap the NH drive assy into an Oliver baler (can't get a driveshaft or clutch assy from the AGCO dealer). It might be cheaper to overhaul the wisconsin if it can be. I'm guessing that you'll spend as much as the baler is worth. Good Luck
