I have this grain/grass seeder and don't know how to set it. We're trying to put down forage seed but it seems to be clogging the output on the grass seeder. I'm thinking the seed is too large for this hopper so I was wondering if we can use the grain hopper but I don't know what the numbers on the dials are for. The one on the top left goes from 20 to 380, the one on the top right goes from 1 to I believe 20. Then there is the arrow type indicator on the bottom that has a O on the right and three - type marks at 12, 9 and 6 if I remember right. I don't have the seeder here at the moment because we were trying to get a pasture planted yesterday and it's over there. Thanks

Thanks for the info. We wound up using the grain hopper and figured out how to set it at the lowest setting so we woudn"t use all the seed up too fast. The seed people recommended about 25# per acre. The only figures on the seeder were in qts. per acre but I had heard somewhere that a quart is roughly equal to a # so I shot for that and we seemed to get pretty good coverage. I guess I"ll save the grass hopper for alfala or smaller seed like that. The stuff we used was about the size of say a rye seed in bread or some larger lawn seed. Thanks again for your help.

Those dials you refer to sound like the acreage meter, not a seeding rate meter. Seeding rate is set by moving a lever which slides the drill shaft to open/close the flutes. Generally a lever for each half of the drill, with a numbered quadrant behind it. Dump some diesel fuel in the box to help loosen it from the rust.

Not sure what you call forage seed. Generally speaking open up the adjustment so that about three seeds can come through at once run over a hard surface so seed won't bury and count seed. Stop get off and count seeds. It takes a little guess work but with a little trial and error and keep notes on your settings you can get pretty good stands. If you can get a seed count as seeds per pound you can calculate about how much you are going to be putting on but marking off a couple of square feet and count the seeds put down. I know you are probably in a hurry but the time it took me to post this and the time it will take you to figure out what is he talking about you should have it set pretty close and on your way.
