Was at a friends house looking at his disc. (don't know the brand) The discs have rounded out the square bar they are mounted on, so they spin individually rather than together with the bar. He was going to fill in the rounded out parts and grind them flat. I know nothing about this, but it looks like he could possibly shim the bar in an inch or so to get the discs shifted over to the square part fo the bar. Will this work, or any other simple fixes?

I put some new discs on my JD PK disc last winter. It call for 1100 foot pounds of torque for that axle. It took a huge socket, breaker bar and a long pipe to get that much torque. My book gave the info on the length of bar to get that much torque. PK

I just replacd 8 disc blades on one front gang of my disc. One piece of advice...apply a lot of liquuid wrench/PB Blasters to all moving parts ...daily for atleast a week. I got a most of my information on how to do it from this board. I used a pipe wrench with a cheater pipe, and 2 1/2 lb hammer to get the axle nut off and back on. The axle might want to turn when your removing and installing the nut but you can try blocking the disc blades with wood blocks. Be careful with your fingers and toes...block and brace any part of the disc that you raise off the ground...do not depend on the hyraulics...I have all my fingers and toes...did get a few cuts..good gloves help out. Good Luck

all the square axle does is keep bearings turning...Ed's rite about axles being too loose...thats what eats blades up.
couple extra washers should help and bounce on tha cheater pipe

Dirt can also cause this and sometime just by taking it all apart and putting it back together with out the decade old hardened mud will fix the problem.

if your going to go this far I'd give serious thought to replacing the bearings.

Have fun taking it apart as you'll be beating it with a sledge hammer and heating it up a little.

Some Disk's have round axles so the square now rounded axle isn't your problem.

You need to tighten up the axes possibly by putting in an extra washer or two. If the discs still turn independant after this you need to replace the disc's and / or cones between the disc's.

I'm talking 10 foot pipe on a big pipe wrench tight - couple hundred foot pounds.

Sounds like your need to replace the disc's
