I have been needing one for a couple years now. Finnaly broke open the check book and purchased one. M&W pt207 the one I got is one season old. Previous owner purchased a 4 basket one and traded in the 207. So I saved a few hundred off a new one but was still a big investment for my little oreration.
Here is a photo of one like mine.

put some of those together and larger units go to most guys who have gras hay. I tried one once as thats what everybody told me I needed for my hay operation. Used it once, not for me. If you ted the same day fine, but if you go back the next day you talk about you will have nothing but stems is what i learned. The idea is to follow right behind mow co and spread the windrow out. Good Luck You will see what I mean.

I dont think this would be a good fit for Alfalfa hay. Would knock all the leaves off.
Guy I know who does Alfalfa uses a windrow inverter. He seems to like that just fine.
He paid 5 grand for his. A little steep for grass hay.

For grass hay you can turn it and throw it as much as you want. Not going to hurt it at all.

You'll like the tedder. They make a huge difference in getting heavy hay to dry. I know I have gained two days of drying time with mine. In MN, that two days can be invaluable when it comes to getting hay baled.

Thats the plan. I am going to be working 4 day weeks this summer. So will have a 3 day window to work with. Plan on cutting around 10 or 11 on the 1st day. Then tedding late in that day.
Ted again the afternoon on the 2nd day.
Rake and Bale the 3rd day.

I also like how a tedder can save your cutting if you get a rain shower on it.

I have found that I do well cutting late in that afternoon on the day before and tedd at 10 - 11 the next morning. The tedder will work fine on Alfalfa if you tedd it with the dew on it such as early morning.

The way it has worked for us mow with haybine day one. Tedd in morning, rake and role up that afternoon, day two. That was in thick, mid thigh high orchard grass red clover mix. I don't think you will be sorry you have a tedder. Don't be surprised if you find out you only need to tedd once. For what it is worth I think tedding in the afternoon is not really a good idea for me anyway. Hay seems to draw moisture over night and if dew is a problem seems to set back any little extra you may have gained with an afternoon tedding. Of course I am not where you are at but that is what works for me around here.

Nice looking unit. There are days when a tedder is priceless.

Here is something my buddies and I discuss. Thinking of all the 30+ year old machinery we have used, we now try to buy new when possible. If taken care of it should last me 30 years and I get the best use out of it. In 30 years I'll be 70 and I can decide weather to trade it or fix it up at that point.
