IH 440 Wire Tie Baler

i purchased this baler at an auction afew months back and i don't know where to start on wiring the knotter....the diagram is there but i'm fairly new to this and i don't quite understand it,. I've also heard that the knotter needs to be timed? is this correct? When i roll it through the knotting cycle by hand it feels to as if something is binding up and it gets hard to turn for awhile....is this normal?

any help is appriciated

What is the serial number. I have some manuals, but go to have the serial number. I also, have a IH 430 wire baler. Tom

if you have hay in the baler when your turning it over your pushing against the hat thats in the chamber. also if you have triped the mechanisum that sets the length of the bale to where its trying to tie off a bale it will be hard to turn, but you should still be able to turn it through by hand. be sure and grease the grease point beind the wheel next to the knoters. there is also some fitting on the plunger that are mean to find. you really need a manual for the baler. there is one inside of the twine box, one inside the auger thats pushes the hay over to the raking arms and some on the raking arm too. there is one on each end of the plunger, a bunch on the knotters, one at the back of the houseing that the raking arms piviots on and the knotters are fastened to. also need to be sure that the brake is set where it has just the right amonut of tension on the needles to keep them from falling down at the wrong time if you hit a hard bump. also never ever move the baler with a truck without having the drive shaft tie up back and out of the way securley. don't ask. also keep the tongue greased good where you break it down to make it line up with a windrow or to pull behind a vehicle. it will keep you from learning new words when it want slide over easy. i never ran mine without greasing it every time i used it or ran a budle of twine through it. i had a lot of trouble with a twine tie 440 with the twine being to close to the edge on one side of the bale. i never did figure out a way to correct that problem.

The needles,twisters,knotters all have to be in time with each other.When it turns hard your bring up the crank that runs the plunger back in forth.
