Need some pointers on calibrating a spray rig. Its a 12 row 3 point hitch type

Basically what you are doing is a big ratio/math problem.You need to figure out how much spray each nozzle is putting out. Then you need to know your tractor's speeds in miles per hour, in each of the gears. Your state cooperative extension service, or their web site probably can supply the formulas you need to do the calibration. The easy way to do it is to fill your sprayer, then travel a known distance, with it spraying. Then measure how much water you have to add to fill your sprayer. Multiply the distance X the width of spray. what you end up with is gallons per area. once you do that, set up a ratio to get you to gallons per acre.

I found a little jug(Field sprayer calibrator for about $12) that fit over one nozzle. Followed directions....measured a certain distance..drove back and forth. kept track of pressure and speed. It gave me Gallons per acre. Worked great

There can be a lot of difference in output among nozzles on the same boom. It gives you a starting point, but monitoring how many gallons it takes to refill the tank over a given area is more accurate.

El Toro's website is a good place to start. Remember that your gauge is not necessarily a true indicator of the pressure at your nozzles. To get the flow rate at say 40 psi, you may need to run your system at 50 psi because of the pressure drop between the nozzle and the gauge.

Your first step will be to get a good graduated beaker and a stop watch. Then adjust your pressure up and down to get the flow rate you need based on your ground speed and your target gallons per acre.

Check out the TeeJet site Link "Technical information" gives the calibration procedure and "Bradcast Nozzles" gives rate charts for the various sizes. You"ll need to decide on a pressure, speed, and then select the size nozzle that gives you the gallons per acre you want. Or if you"ve got the nozzles already adjust speed or pressure to get your rate. I"d still set the sprayer by the book then spray a small field of known acreage with water to check it.

Contact the company that made your sprayer, I'm sure they have a procedure. Your chemical supplier may have a chart too. Hal

Same here. I have a pull type sprayer that I built myself. Has Tee-Jets tips every 13" & ha a span of 20". I flow around 40psi but I think that is too much. What type of speed shouls I consider running?

First you need to know what size tips you have.

You can use different sizes to go from 2 mph to 15 mph to put on 5 to 40 gal per acre.

You need to get a chart to give you this information. Who ever you buy your chemicals from should be able to supply one.

The book will also tell you how to calibrate.

My book with the formula is in the tractor if no one else answers I may be able to help out tonite.
