Hello men.I just replaced 2 bad bearings in my old roller today and I need to tighten the chain a little bit.Can this be done by adjusting the spring tension? It will bump together a little bit on the start of a new roll and I don"t want to bend any bars.It has been years since I worked on a baler like this.Just can"t remember.I don"t think by tighting the chain it will tighten the roll itself any.Or will it?

Thanks for all the help

Bigun

Better get your manual out, as every model is a little different from the next. But, spring tension has nothing to do with the chain tension in an empty bale chamber.

Should be an adjustment on the tension sissor frame via stop bolts of some sort. If the adjustment can't be acheived with the stop-bolts, you have to remove 5 links and one bar on the main chain(s) to take up the slack.

Additionaly, you don't want to run it loose, as it could not only damage the bars, but might also jump time on the drive sprokets.

A lot depends on which chain your talking about. The main chain yes that will make the bale tighter. By the way you can still buy the books on the NH850 for NH, I know I did a couple years ago. Best place for you to start is to get then manual and then you will know for sure what your doing

Thanks Old.I have a manual but it does not tell that adjusting the springs will tighten the bale. If it does come right out and say it I can't find it.How tight do you make it? It has a lot of pressure on it with a full roll so I would think it needs a little slack.

Thanks

On page 18 it talks about bale density and in there it talks about the springs and what they do as far as how dense the bale is
