We have always used a disc cultivator, I was wondering what the advantages are to a C spring type cultivator over a disc type Thanks

I agree with the other fellow as to the good of a disk.

However, it tends to pack the ground, make ridges, and does not handle wet ground very well.

A field cuiltivator will level ground better, put lumps & debris trash on top, leaving a nice seed bed at the 2 inch depth. A disk pushes all that stuff down into the seed zone.

Today on real farming a disk is parked in the grove, only used to cut up cornstalks in spring or deal with lumpy cloddy soil.

Years ago we used both types. The disc type was the most preferred because it would cut through weeds and not tangle up with morning glory or wide cucumber. You could usually travel a bit faster as well. The shank type or spring type would penetrate the soil deeper if that's you goal.
