Using a truck to dig a trench

Hope to get some postive ideas from you folks.

I need to dig a trench...don't have anything but a shovel and a large truck (F-700). Too lazy to use the shovel at this moment...so....I wondering if any of you have ever attached something to a large vehicle (like a large truck) that could "plow" a trench. The idea is to mount a home made device to the bumper...(maybe a steel pipe with some hooks welded to it), position it a foot or so deep and back up the truck, forming the trench as she rolls. I don't mind making a few passes to do most of the trenching....just looking for a machine to do most of the hard work. Any ideas for a "truck trenching device" is appreciated.

We have used both a walking plow if there is heavy sod or hard surface, and other times we prefer a potato plow in softer soil. Common sence is a very big factor. A longer chain will help you steer the plow, and if you need to make a second pass the driver must pay attention.

Hook up an old subsoiler to the truck. We rigged one up to cut the groove, and at the same time lay the wire in back of the blade.

The neighbor made a dandy trench about 12" deep one time. Had his wife in a chevy 4x4 pull him with an old walking plow that he had for a mailbox post. Think he said she just got to 2nd gear when the plow hit an old buried stone foundation and flipped him into the back of the truck. Dad said 'musta never ran a team'.
Cost him more in medical bills than having a backhoe come and do it.

Thats actually a pretty good Idea!! I have to dig a drainage trench from my barn and was wondering how to do it. I think I'll just dust off the ol trailer plow.

This reminds me of my mom desperate to get a garden in complaining and finally making dad squeeze an old rusty 1973 volvo station wagon into the side yard and hooked a set of horse drawn harrows to it. It fetched hard and tossed her aside and also folded the handles off the harrows. I'd swear to this day I saw a smile on the old mans face in the rearview.
