The engine {Ford in line 6 cyl gas}has a side busted out. Looking for a engine or need to know what other machine may use the same engine. Have tried one from a Owatonna but not the same. Thanks

It uses a ford 250 engine, so look for old Mavericks or Mustangs

As some of you may know, the 250 engine shares the 240/300/SBF bell housing bolt pattern while the 200 CID engine has the "small six" pattern. So if it is a 250 engine, the larger (and more popular) 300 engine would at least bolt up to the machine.

If the engine has the intake manifold cast with the head, it is probably a 200 or 250. If it has seperate intake manifold it will be a 240 or 300.

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that it's a Ford 300.... Any junkyard in the country should have them. Install the govenor and necessary parts..... ..... .. and you're off.

I was under the impression that all those windrowers used the four cylinder engine. Both the gas and diesel versions?

Allan, I really don't know what they had. You could be right. The fella did say it was a 6 though, so I went with the 300 because I know they used them in the old combines and stuff like that. I know in later years they used the Basildon tractor engines (or the diesel's at least).
I guess in the end, whatever will bolt up in terms of the bellhousing, and make enough torque at low speeds should work. A govenor and controls shouldn't be too hard to add or make up. Heck, I 'magine you could walk a fella right through that with all the work you've done on those 'other' red ones now....
