What iron are you looking for? I"ve got about 6 new -never used pitmans with the iron ends. The rock guards are available at most farm stores.
I have a JD Big #4 and a Case #5 horse mower. I used to have about 12 horse mowers at one time, but have been selling some of my collection.

I could use the pitman stick irons for both ends and I think there are some small pieces that go in between the flywheel end and the pitman irons look like a ball would fit in there???

The rearend is locked up. It will only go backward. any ideas or are the gears shot. Have not tore into yet, might just be rusted??

thanks

I forgot to ask, does the flywheel end just have a iron shaft sticking out? Also I do have a couple original (never used)swath boards for McCormick, Deering and Minnesota mowers. The original boards have an iron runner on the bottom of the wood and also have the metal mounting plate attached to the side. I had bought several swath boards, pitmans with the iron ends and two new sickles still in the wooden crates from an old hardware store when it changed owners. None for JD unfortunately. -Just the pitmans.

The mower will roll in reverse as the dogs in the wheels will click. It is free wheeling in reverse -something may be froze. I"d open it up to see how bad it is. Parts can be heated to losen them up. Do you have any iron left at the ends of the pitman? You can then replace just the wood. Can you email me any pictures? All horse mowers are getting hard to find now days. I used to have a JD Dain, a #2 JD and the Big #4, three Minnesota"s -a #1, #2 and #4, two Deering #6 , a Deering New Ideal, a Deering one horse Ideal, a McCormick #7 and a Deering #4. I had restored the Minn. #4 many years ago, then used it to mow 15 acres of hay. It did a better job than my Int"l #100 balanced mower. Nice to see these old machines being saved instead of scrapped.
