I need a favor from someone with a new or near new box scraper . I have an old 6 foot box scraper and the side plates have worn down pretty bad . I am going to weld new metal to the sides but I dont know if the rear cutting blade is even with ... lower and by how much ... or above and how much , of the side plates . Could somebody take a look see on theirs and let me know .

I would sure appreciate it , thanks

Bob

Thanks everybody . From all my research , your comments and pictures I've looked at , the side plates should be rectangular and the edges parallel with each other . An inch of exposed blade seems to be the average so thats how I'll repair it . Mine is worn bad . The front of the end plates are at least 2 inches less than the rear . No wonder I had a hard time keeping the blade from digging in ! Anyway It wont be that hard to fix it with some flat steel stock and a mig welder . Incidently its a Howse brand . I dont even know if they are still in business , but it is a really heavy duty well built box scraper. The previous owner replaced the blade at least once so its seen some action . The rocky , gravelly soil here in Arizona does a number on equipment

every box blade i've seen has a slight uphill angle from cutting edge forward on the side plates...an inch of blade below side plates is all ya need.

I have a king cutter. The edge is worn some, but it is still an inch below the sides.

Mine is a Servis brand box. The rear cutting edge is a couple inches below the sides. It also floats up when pulling it forward.
