What is the difference between single and double disc grain drills? What I really want to do is sow grasses and clover trefoil etc.

If you are mainly going to sow clover and some grass and want to do it cheaply, you might try an old oat seeder. It may not spread the grass perfectly, but it does a decent job on clover.

Be sure the 2 large gears that drive the spinners are in decent shape and that that the clover attachment(the smaller tank in the back) is in good shape.

Single disk has one disk per row and double disk has 2 disks per row. Either one will work.

However, if all you are going to do is seed grass and legumes, with no large-seeded grain like oats or wheat as a nurse crop, a machine like a Brillion Sure-Stand packer/seeder may be a better choice, IF you have the money to spend on one. They can be found used all over in the Mid-Atlantic states.

What is the going price for a 12 or 15 foot model? I have seen them but they are not real common out here.

A good, no-frills 12 footer with transport wheels will go for around $1500. A fancier machine, with the regular grass box, the fluffy seed box, and the legume box, plus track-whackers (to get the tire tracks out) will go for $2500 or more, sometimes a lot more for the newest ones.

The best alfalfa stands come from a Brillion, in my opinion.
