Kewanee Disk Tires ?

In the process of getting a 12" Disk operational, has been sitting in the neighbors pasture for about 20 years. Went to price tires it currently has a mix of 7.75 and 7.50 on 15" rims. Can't find that size used and new ones run @ $70 each at Farm & Fleet. What other tires can I use and not have to worry about ground clearance when going down the road? My used tire guy suggested a tire that is about 2 inches shorter. I will only be going about a mile from the shed to the field once I get it home approximately 4 miles.

Thanks in advance.

You may want to check for used aircraft tires. Some of them are 20 ply. Hal

I agree with all the used tire comments. I have found used ones for free at various illegal dump sites. Many have fatal damage to them but I have found many that were just at the tread wear legal limit for cars. I'll run them on an implement until the cords show, unless I need some tread for traction.

Paul: Don is right, go with 235-75-R15, it replaces the old 7.50x15. Make sure you get a matched set. Nothing worse on those wheel controlled disks than have mismatched tires. If you wan to make a shallow cut, controlling depth with tires, even one size out will let it cut about 2" deeper one side than other.

Put down another vote for used car/truck tires.

I'd use a 235-75 R15 on there if it were me. That's what we run on all of our hay wagons and tillage equipment without any problems.

I had a 10ft Kewaunee, I just used old car tires, bout for $5 - including mounting. 2 inches shouldn't matter.

When we sold Kewanee discs, only one customer wanted new tires. All the rest were sold with worn car tires with new tubes. I would think there should be an abundant supply of P215, 225, 235/75-15 tires available which would work nicely.

Agreed. When 12 foot disks were common here, no one that I knew used anything but used auto tires.
