Hi,

I have never used a disk Chisel before but was curios about them. Here in far north Iowa I have learned and seen most people go through and chisel, disk, cultivate, than plant. Could I eilminate a step with a disk-chisel to where I do that in the fall, field cultivate in the spring and plant with a JD 7000 that has no trash wipers on it? Thanks for your advise.

A disc chisel plow is a chisel plow with a row of disc blades mounted in front of the chisels to cut thru the corn stalks-trash so they do not plug up. For either would not make any difference in the tools used to finnish the seed bed

i think most people use a chisel plow in the fall to open up furrows where rain can penetrate the ground ease and the plow points do a good job of covering some of the trash on the ground to help keep down soil erosion. so many people go to no till every thing now. last summer we had a big drought and i think the guys who chiseled are going to do real good this year over the guys who didn't. a good disking and a do-all run in front of a planter is all thats needed. a do-all has several rows of plow points like a field cultivator, several gangs on blades mounted on shafts to chop the ground, a section harrow all followed by a leveling board. makes one heck on aa nice seed bed that is real level for cultivating later.
