On the 400's they just used a rubber sleeve over the rows you don't want to plant with on the seed drum presto no seed out that row. Won't cost 1300.00 either .

They also sell the rubber "band/sleeve" for the newer machines. My two drums are drilled/punched for eight rows and so I cover the extra two rows on each drum with the bands. I can't imagine stopping and continually changing the rubber bands, particularly when I only need to shut off rows for a few yards each round. If he has a 12 row planter I suspect he is not farming just a few acres, and consequently time is an issue when planting. The sleeves/bands aren't cheap either, $22/piece for a large rubber band. Sometimes you have just got to pay for convenience and timeliness.

Slectro Company, Avon, South Dakota. I just ordered a set for a 900 12 row, haven't installed them yet. Have the same problem, odd shaped fields causing too many point rows. Two row shut-off requiring 6 switches was $1378. Three row capability was around $200 cheaper. Phone 800-355-3221 or 605-286-3221

I've seen one in the back of some farm magazines. Sorry, I can't remember which ones and it's been a while. Dad gets Successfull Farming, Farm Industry News and the like. Think it was in SF.
