Hey all,

I am really new to using a tractor. I have only had my old 8N around 3 weeks. Last weekend I went out and thought I would mess around with the backblade to see what it would do and it didn't really seem to do much. I have a feeling this isn't its fault :) more likely its me not knowing how to set it up. All it does is skip along the top of the ground and when I hit a bump with it it will just barely skim the top and leave the rest. If I come at it in reverse it works a bit better but still not doing what I had hoped. Is there some trick to setting these up? Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Aron Kerr

Adjusting the center link help and also most back blades are way to lite to work well. Since you have zero down pressure on it all that holds it down it the weight of the blade so yes it bounces. What I have done is put suit case weights on my blade which helps a lot, or did when I really used it a lot now days I don't use it much because I have my WD speed patrol which is a road grader.

try adjusting the length of your third arm (top link) to make it "bite" more. if your trying to move matrial you'll want to use a box blade. if it has some plows with it you use them first to loosen the material up and then use the box to pull the material where you want it. all a blade will do for you is level the material right where it is. also going slow will help. you might try adding some weights to the blade, but not so many that it makes the front end of the tractor not want to stay in contact with the ground or rare up with you when you let out on the clutch. time and patientence will get you a long ways down the road.
