I am considering buying a 648 NH baler. The baler is a silage special has netwrap with bale command. The baler has 7000 bales on it. Is that a lot of bales for this baler or average. I do not have a large farm but I put up about 600 bales a year. I need about that will be dependable and last awhile. Would this be a good baler? I am going to be making silage hay 4X4 size. Is there anything I should look for as far as wear. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I know of several 644/648 balers around here with 10-12,000 bales on the original belts. One of these has made probably 8,000 60" silage bales. Check the normal stuff, drives, roll bearings, wiring harness condition. The place to look that you didn't know is the gears that run on and between the dimple rolls in the front of the chamber. The teeth may be getting sharp. The idlers are half the size of the gears on the rolls so the teeth and bearings they ride on get twice the wear & tear.
