Looking at one and was wondering if they have a good rep. I noticed that it had one broken chain in the tool box. I have never been around one. I think it is a 4x6 bailer but not sure It has hyd tie. Are they worth much? Seems like it has a lot of ware. Dont need to buy another project. Wife is sick and just dont have the time to do a lot of repair. I would never tell her but batching sucks. Thanks Sam

Sam,

Although they worked pretty darned good when they were new, you might want to steer clear of the floor chain models.

Getting long in the tooth and just more "mechanical" things to go wrong vs the floor-roller types.

Sam,

I had a 847 which is about the same as an 846. NH balers then made odd sized bales, that one is a few inches off of being a full 4 x 5.
It has chains in the bottom of the baler that help form the bale. These cost $75 each 15 years ago. Also, the metal in the floor wears out from the bale turning on it. I had to weld strips in the bottom between the chains.
The big chains were $900 plus 15 years ago, and it is a jib to replace them. The piece of chain, assuming its one of the big belt forming chains, is a bad sign. If you could tell that the chains had been recently been replaced the baler might be ok, but otherwise I would leave it alone.

Can't say much about that one but I know in my area you can find NH 850s balers for less then $1000. I use a NH 850 on my place and have for the last few years. My big problem is the bales are very heavy and all my 841 ford with loader wants to move them
