I never was around a wire tie but I have baled a bunch with the twine tie. Still use one today and like it a lot. My only problem is that the hydraulic pump on the bale tensoner needs to be rebuilt as it is getting weak.

i wore a 440 completely out that was a twine tie. kept it serviced every 500 bales. had my share of problems with it as it got older. as with any square balers you need to check the plunger guides and bearings out real good, see if the needles have been weleded on or bent, turn it through by hand and see if it ties good. i found that if you kept the knotters blown off with air or at least cleaned out from under them real good they would tie well. if you didn't keep them cleaned out you were in trouble. also my 440 tied one string to close to the outside of the bale and they slipped off easy if handled to rough.
