Hello,
In need of some help. While I was greasing up the rake today I found that the seals for the crank case have gone bad. All the grease I put in came back out. Finally got it apart. Will get new seals and bearings tommorow. Does any one have a exploded view of how everything goes back together. I tried to keep thing together but aftre cleaning parts i dont know what goes where. Any help would be great.

Thanks ,Devin

Devin,

A bit more advice: once you have the gearbox assembled, don"t bother refilling it with gear oil. Before you put the cover back on, just push 2 tubes of grease into it and you are good to go.

Grease does a better job in this application and won"t leak out like the oil.

Scott

I believe that is the offial update from NH as well - use heavy grease in there. Forget the original gear oil idea.

PS: Be sure to pack the bearings with grease before assembly if you decide to use grease in the gearbox.

If you are getting your parts from CNH, they will print you a copy of the parts breakdown.

Thanks for the reply. I had thought about that. After all I have my big tractor there in the shop. They have always been good about offering help.

Heck, why bother them. New holland now has the exploded views online. Check it out. Just punch in your model number and bingo.

John Deere took it one step further and you can now find out how much your parts are, order your parts online and your dealer will call you when they are in. Super slick.

Try this link, but if it doesn't work, go to the new holland North American home page. Click on parts & service. Then click "search for parts." Type in your model number and it will give you several options for 256, one being your rake.

Last year I had to rebuild the box on my 56 and the dealer made me a copy from his parts book. Most of them are pretty good about that.
