I have a Woods RM-59 finish mower that is probably 20 years old with, I am sure, the original blades. I have tried in vain with both an impact wrench and a socket wrench with a 6 foot pipe to loosen the blade bolts and they won't budge at all (I have cracked a 15/16" socket using the socket wrench and pipe). I have tried turning in both directions, thinking maybe the bolts are reverse threaded.

Spring is here, the grass is growing and any assistance you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Call Woods at 1-800-319-6637 and ask them if those bolts have left or right threads. Hal

Use a torch to heat the bolts and use a heavy wall
impact socket and turn up the air pressure. They may have left hand threads. Use a 3/4 drive air impact. Hal

My L59 Woods mower has LH thread cap screws holding the blades on. I caught on before I broke anything. The mower discharges to the left.

CENTAUR: I have been using a 1/2" impact wrench with 15/16" impact socket and 100 psi. It just vibrates. I turn the socket so the "15/16" is towards me and it never rotates (in either direction). I cracked the first impact socket using it with the socket wrench (1/2") and pipe for leverage. Any other suggestions?

Get a 15/16 6pt.IMPACT SOCKET ( BLACK OXIDE FINISH).If possible DO NOT use any extensions as they reduce the IMPACT.Have at least 90 PSI to with a 3/8 inch hole in the fittings as most are only 1/4 inch opening. You can overcome the 1/4 inch fittings to some degree by upping the PSI. CENTAUR
