I have a ford 515 sickle mower that I would like to get operational. some one has drug the bottom of the case and there is a small hole in it. I just need to know it the bearings inside are sealed or if the case is supposed to be oil filled.
Thanks for any info

Do you guys have any idea what one of these mowers would be worth? I've got one that is in good shape except for the break-back arm which was replaced with a solid arm before I got it. I used this mower for 4 or 5 years but replaced it with a disc mower last year. I figure I'll sell it rather than let it sit in the barn taking up space but don't have a clue what to ask for it. Thanks!

It depends on what "case" your talking about. The top of the wobble box is kind of domed shaped and has 2 bolts, which you open and the bearing is in there. Clean out the old grease and check bearing for wear and pitting. Don't remove bearing. Apply plenty of new grease. The other little round plug only gives access to a zerk fitting, which you may need to move a pulley to see it. Grease that good. Don't just dump grease into the little round plug opening, it will just go to the ground. Get a manual from New Holland, they cost about $15. It shows all grease points, and will tell you how to get the mower working good, like section and guard adjustments. These mowers run great when properly adjusted and with good sections and ledger plates. Think of it like a big scissor. You can't cut nothing if theres a big gap between scissors.

I believe the 515 is a balance head mower built by IH. ON the top of gear box is a round plug thay will pop out with a screwdriver remove it and look in hole there should be a grease fitting for the top bearing. There could also be a plug just like it on the lower front of the box and a grease fitting behind that. There should not be any oil in this. Not all of these mower had the bottom one.
