Glencoe Soil Saver

I have a 9 shank Glencoe chisel plow and it hops or "walks" side to side when I use it. It does this at every speed and I have checked eVERYTHING as far as it being level and the depth stops being equal. It never used to do this. I was wondering if the springs/shocks that put pressure on the front discs could be doing it. is that thing inside the spring an actual gas charged shock or is it a slide/guide for the spring. this thing was made in the early 80"s if that helps, I am desperate. Everyone has told me that all glencoe chisel plows do this and to take the springs off of the disc gangs and chain them up higher to the mainframe. It wont do it if I run the chisel plow half in the previously plowed path and half on non plowed soil. thanks for the help.

Stuart, What model do you have, is it a 7400. I had a 7400 and I didn't have that problem. The main frame was filled with Glencore, if was a combination of tatinight and concrete. That added a lot of weight, never had bouncing problems. It's possible that earlyer models did not have that in the frame and therefore are to light. I remember that it pulled easier with the disk full down in front.

that what I thought,the early units with the spring reset shanks were known for that. I had one got rid of it and went newer style umts with the much large spring strength and more clearence,or go back to the shear bolt style they won't do that. The wider the shovel you run the worse it is also on those units. I don't use either now as not till what have left and rest is hay crops

they are just slide guides. Have you tried tightening them some Also do you unit have the spring trip shanks or are they the shear bolt type.
